Just got my ATT Tilt and got it all working with activesync & my Exchange server. Had it two days and went on mass transit with it in my pocket. This was an excellent upgrade from my Treo 650 when my Goodlink service ran out.

Some slight jostle or impact and the screen is now totally useless. One can't even tell that there was an impact but the screen has clearly failed and is jumble of ten thousands colored stripes - totally unreadable. Otherwise the phone works fine.

ATT wants $400 for a non-warrantee repair (damage) and also said to "call HTC". Great ! No help from my new phone vendor !!! Sprint would take my Treo phone for $7 / month damage protection and give it back the same day.
THe Treo screen never broke, but degraded over two years and needed to be replaced. Sprint did this without batting an eyebrow.

I think there is going to be a riot amongst customers who also experience what must be a very sensitive screen. If I get this repaired I'm definitely putting this in a hard shell - which greatly dimishes the value of the PDA.

ATT I thought you were the top tier vendor, I'm dissapointed.

Sorry to hear about ur Tilt.

I think HTC (the manufacturer ) offers 1 yr warrenty on any phone ...i gues it worth calling HTC and explaining them the problem...u don't have to mention about any 'impact' or anything of that sort..just tell them that the screen has issues and u can't use it...if u really are hard on them and insist that they will have to replace per warranty ..if HTC an't help you, try calling cingular again (u may get a different operator than the one you spoke to before)...explain them the same and requet for replacement, if they still say no...just ask them to transfer you to the Cancellation dept...and tell them that u r not happy and would like to cancel the service with them...I am sure they will try and do anything to keep u as their cutomer...it had worked for me on number of occassions.

AT&T is a "top tier" company--as far as network and sales go. Service is a totally different question.

Too late for you, but for others needing repairs, I can recommend pocketpctechs.com. Fair prices, quick service.

Your TILT has a 1-year warranty on it from HTC. AT&T's warranty replacement number is 1-800-801-1101. You call this number, they send you another phone, and then you return your defective one in the box your replacement came in, using a prepaid mailer they provided.

When you call, they will tell you if the phone you send in has been determined to be damaged, they will charge you for the replacement via your cell phone bill. If the screen is actually defective and not malfunctioning due to damage, you should be ok.

You should also be able to replace it directly through HTC, but I do not know their procedures.

I went through 4 8525's in 6 months and cingular keept replacing it.
Be sure not to say you droped it. Mine had several small dents and scratches and they still replaced it. They finaly upgraded me to the tilt

:( :mad: :( my screen cracked too. I pulled it out of my cargo pants , and plow lcd cracked and runny. I looked for a new LCD screen on the internet, they were all around $75 and one site charged $165 if I sent it to them they'd do all the work. But thats crazy finally I found one on E-bay fo $50 with tools , I hope it will work, in the mean time I have missed my tilt, its like losing a friend.

:) Well I successfully replaced my cracked LCD the day before yesterday and it works great and since I did it myself, it didn't cost me alot of money. And to add to that Yesterday my area finally turned on 3G ! :)

I was in my driveway one warm evening talking to a friend of mine when out of no where this suicide june bug flew straight to the back of my throat. In one fluid movement, I choked, lungged forward and threw my tilt in the gravel. Pieces and parts went everywhere. After cursing the june bug I managed to find all the parts, took it inside and re-assembled it and to my supprise it worked just fine. Other than two minor cosmetic scratches I was astonished by how it held up.
