does any one know of a really good gps program? i was gonna go with tom tom 6 but a couple of the reviews i read about it are making think otherwise

I downloaded TRACKY from "download.com" it´s a pretty good GPS softaware. I´m just learning hoe to use it. So far I konw it has altimeter, compass, tracking, etc. Anyway I am still looking for other gps softaware for my Tnyt II.

It only costs $55 and it is almost as good as the garmin navs and is very responsive and recalculates quicker that any other gps system I've used, and I have 4 gps's! That is a lifetime upgrade price. The only thing they are short on is telling you the name of the street coming up to turn on. They are working on that and should be releasing it soon. You can get it at Handango.com. Very nice looking maps and super easy to use! You can see it at www.infogation.com

I just went to the Odyssey Mobile site 11-11-07 22:15 and the way I read it as quoted and copied from thier site, it says: "Online access to up-to-date map databases within one year of purchase" To me that does not even come close to suggesting lifetime updates!:confused:

you just didn't read and do what I said to do. Again, check out the app on infogation.com and then go to Handango.com to buy the app with, yes lifetime, updates for 54.99. They have made it hard to find it on their site. Also, I spoke to infogation and they say they offer it at a high price on their site so as to not underprice their online sellers.

I just talked to InfoGation and the Mapping Program itself is lifetime updates, however the maps themselves are licensend and there will be a charge similiar to the amount that Garmin charges for their map updates, somewhere around $45 to$55 when they are made available. Note: They are working on an update for the map data now, but he did not know when the new data will be available. So that to me means that if it is bought now a person will spend anoter $50 or so to update data shortly.

Also HandanGo site says the Odyssey Program is not compatible with the Tilt, but the tech said that several people said they were using it and that it should work ok.

I read what was said above in the Original Thread giving the Odyssey link to mean lifetime updates period!
So when the thread says lifetime updates it is correct in the Program sense, but not in the data sense and I think buyers need to know this upfront, before they purchase.:)
The HandanGo price for the US & Canada is 1/3 the cost of Infogations All Regions, which is also and only the US & Canada. You are right in that it is a Smokin Deal!" for a 1/3 the cost!!!

sorry to diverge.... for those that do not subscribe to GPS service through at&t, is there anyway to use Google Maps or MSN Live to determine/track your location rather than typing in your physical address. I would like to use GPS but I frankly am not going to shell $10/month when I rarely use it. I'm only a student.

Either one of those will work with the built in GPS. They both have an option to track your current location.

Hi everyone, I just recently purchased the tilt. I was wondering if there is a way to access the GPS without using a data connection? Google maps gives me an error when I am not connected to any data connections.

Hi,

I am looking to buy the tilt, but I would like to find out more about GPA capabilities. If i do NOT want to pay thr $10 monthly fee, and if I do NOT want to pay for the GPS to internet (I do not plan on having a data plan), what options do I have. Do these programs work without using ATT data / the mobile internet? Also, do these programs take up a lot of space... can I put it on expandable memory?

On a sidenote... does anyone know how much a regular or an extended battery costs?

i have tomtom nav 6 on my tilt and love it its around 160 worth every penny only thing is u can only install it on 3 devices before it locks up on u..but me bein me i found the crack..i highly recomen tomtom

If you are using a Windows Mobile device you can use TomTom, iGuidance, CoPilot or similar application and not need a data plan. GPS signals are free. They are paid for with US tax dollars. You just need an application as above which can take those signals and turn them into useful information (position on a map).

You can load the applications on a microSD card and run it from there - use at least a 4 GB card, larger is better.

Now, if you have a Blackberry and use the GPS/Maps you must have a BB dataplan as the maps are downloaded as you need them, cannot be stored and run from the sd card.

Thanks. Correct me if i'm wrong but TomTom came on the CD, no? So I just hook that up to my 4 GB storage card and I'm good to go? What if I want to use Google Maps or MSN Live Search. sorry confused :confused:

This will take you to a box where you enter your Tilt's phone number and Google will send you a text link directly to your device where you can click and download an installation file over the air to your Tilt or to a storage care if you have one. Once you download the B installation file, navigate to the file with file explorer, click, install and feel free to travel about the countryside. You can use your GPS to connect with satellites and fine tune your location with amazing accuracy while enjoying turn-by-turn directions to your end destination. I'm going to take a trip right now to play with my Tilt and my newfound, free GPS functionality! :D

You're right. Extended use of Google Maps with an unlimited wireless data plan at $30 per month would be more expensive than maps on an SD card at a single cost of $150 or better depending on where you shop. I realize that some people don't use the Tilt with an unlimited data plan but it seems that the network speed and messaging functionality given the powerful capabilities of the device can't be fully exploited without an unlimited plan. Since I'm a pretty heavy data user and not a much of a maps user, the Google Maps integration with GPS is more of a bonus for me and provides enough of what I need since I'll spend the money on data anyway. Tom Tom and Garmin are certainly better products if you're looking for super-robust GPS products.

I was able to get it run quite easily. Only thing extra you need is garmin US map img file.
